About EditPDFWord

EditPDFWord is a web tool that turns a PDF into a Word document you can actually type in. It is built and run by a small team, and launched in 2026.

What it does

The job is PDF to editable Word — real paragraphs, real tables and real headings, rebuilt from the geometry of the page. That is a different job from the conversion most tools do, which drops a picture of each page into a stack of text boxes: it looks right until you try to edit a sentence.

Pages that already carry a text layer are extracted directly, with no AI model involved at all. Scanned pages — a photograph of text, with no text layer behind it — are transcribed by an AI vision model, so what you get back is editable text rather than an embedded image.

The same engine writes other formats when the source suits them: a table-shaped PDF can come out as an Excel workbook (.xlsx), a document can come out as Markdown, and a set of born-digital slides is routed to PowerPoint (.pptx) instead of Word.

How it runs

Conversion happens on our servers, not in your browser — rebuilding a page's structure needs more than a browser tab can do. Basic conversion is free and needs no account, within a daily and monthly page limit. AI transcription of scanned pages is the part that costs money to run; you can either use ours or paste your own API key, in which case the conversion runs at your provider's cost. The current limits are on the pricing page.

There is no watermark on the output in either mode.

What happens to your files

Quoting our privacy policy verbatim: Uploaded files and the Word documents we produce are automatically deleted within 6 hours. We do not keep your document contents beyond that window. The single exception is one you switch on yourself — a checkbox after a conversion that lets us keep that source PDF so an engineer can look at why it converted badly. The privacy policy has the full text.

Languages

The site and the interface are published in English, Simplified Chinese and Traditional Chinese. The converter itself is not language-specific: it handles Latin and CJK documents, including mixed-script ones.
